Cooking Instructions (For 1 Packet):
Preparation: 20 minutes | Cooking: 50-60 minutes | Serves: 5-6
- Fry:
- Fry 2 medium-sized onions (thinly sliced) in ¾ cup (150g) of hot oil until golden. Remove from oil and set aside.
- Add 500g of cubed, bone-in beef, ½ tablespoon of ginger paste, and ½ tablespoon of garlic paste. Stir-fry on medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Cook:
- Add ¾ cup (150g) of beaten yogurt and 1 packet of National Beef Biryani Recipe Mix. Stir-fry for another 5 minutes.
- Pour in 3-4 cups of water. Cover and cook on low heat until the beef is tender.
- Stir-fry:
- Add 4-5 green chillies (slit lengthwise) and stir-fry on high heat until the oil separates from the gravy.
- At this stage, there should be about 1-1½ cups of gravy left. If there’s more, cook on high heat to reduce the excess water.
- Boil:
- In a separate pot, boil 2½ cups (500g) of soaked basmati rice in 12 cups of water with 2 tablespoons of salt. Boil until the rice is ¾ done. Drain thoroughly.
- Layer:
- Spread a little oil from the meat gravy at the bottom of a pot. Add a layer of half the rice, then pour the meat curry over it. Top with the remaining rice.
- Sprinkle chopped cilantro (½ cup) and yellow food color (as needed) over the rice.
- Simmer & Serve:
- Cover and cook on high heat for 3 minutes. Then, reduce the heat and cook for another 10 minutes on low heat.
- Serve hot with raita and salad.
